Annoying! More people than not ask if it took us a long time, I guess because I’ve been with husband since college and married 7 years. My current least favorite is a smug and condescending “ha, you have no idea what you’re in for.” Yes, I know. I’m trying the best I can to prepare, and not assuming that I know anything. But, there is no way for me to KNOW what I’m in for, so give me a freaking break!

I’m often astounded by people’s reactions to so many things, nothing so much as reproduction though.

I don’t think they realize what they’re actually saying most of the time. Don’t realize, don’t try to… it all equals the same thing… foot in mouth.

I like to think that those who ask if it took you long to get pregnant are fellow IFers looking for a way to let you know they understand. Of course on the flip side, they could be a gossipmonger wanting to know if you’ve got good swimmers. Because, you know, that’s their buisness and stuff.

Ok, first of all, someone asked if it took long to get pregnant? What dipshit was this? I must know…

Also, I think it’s VERY curious that people have said that you must be excited to be having a boy because usually when I answer with ‘it’s a boy’, I mostly get a very unenthused, “oh, ok”. I’ve never once been asked whether I was excited. It must be because alternatively I have a vagina and society has expected me to want a child with the same.

And lastly, the ‘things will never be the same’ is one of the more annoying cliched statements, to which I would LOVE to reply, ‘You’re kidding? I mean, I really just figured that when I go drinking with my friends that I could strap the kid on my chest and just hope I don’t spill the shots on him.’ *sigh*
